Moving is stressful. There’s no way around it. There are so many things to pack, decisions to be made, and planning involved to ensure everything goes smoothly. But as you’re busy moving your life into a new place and ensuring your stuff gets there safely, don’t forget about yourself! If you’re feeling stressed out while moving (which is understandable), these self-care tips can help reduce that stress and get you back into a relaxed state of mind:
Listen to music.
Listening to music can be a great way to relax and unwind. It’s also been shown that listening to music with headphones can help you sleep better, which in turn helps reduce stress levels. You may want to choose a playlist of calming or relaxing songs for this purpose–and if you’re feeling particularly stressed out by all the moving preparations, look up some relaxing instrumental tunes on YouTube!
If you don’t have any specific songs in mind but still want some background noise while unpacking or cleaning up around your new place, consider using one of those “rainy day” playlists on Spotify (or whatever streaming service works best for you). This will provide pleasant background noise without being too distracting from whatever else needs to be done at any given time.
Read a book.
Reading a book is a great way to relax and escape from moving stress. It can also help you learn new things, which can be helpful in your new location. Reading will help you learn about yourself and the world around you as well as give you an opportunity to reflect on your life and what it means for you going forward.
Take a bath or shower.
When you’re feeling stressed, nothing beats a hot bath. Fill the tub with warm water and let yourself soak for as long as you want; it’s perfectly fine to get lost in thought while sitting in your tub, listening to music, and sipping on some tea! If you want something more luxurious than plain old water, try adding some bath salts or an essential oil blend (you can even make your own blend). Add some bubble bath if that sounds appealing–just make sure it doesn’t contain any additives that might irritate sensitive skin or clog pores.
While there are no rules when it comes to taking a relaxing bath or shower, there are ways of making this part of self-care easier: turn off all electronics before getting into the bathroom; use candles instead of harsh overhead lights; keep only what’s necessary near where you’ll be sitting on the floor (this way there won’t be any clutter).
Watch some Netflix.
There are many ways to unwind and relax while moving, but another great way is watching Netflix. It’s an excellent way to learn new things, be entertained, and be inspired–and it can also help you reduce stress!
Whether you’re looking for knowledge or want something fun to watch on a rainy day, Netflix has you covered. With thousands upon thousands of titles available for streaming (and more being added every month), there’s bound to be something that appeals to your interests and tastes no matter what they may be. Whether that means documentaries about sharks or documentaries about World War II (or both!), there’s something out there for everyone–you just have to know where look!
Sleep in on the weekend.
Sleep is important for your health and well-being, so it’s no surprise that sleeping in on the weekends can help reduce stress levels. If you’ve been working hard all week to get everything packed up, it may be tempting to sleep in on Saturday morning and then catch up on reading or watching TV. However, making sure you’re getting enough sleep is also important for managing your stress levels during this time. You might find that after sleeping in for a few weeks straight when moving into your new home (or even after just one weekend), you start feeling more rested and relaxed than ever before!
Write in a journal.
Writing down your thoughts and feelings can be a great way to process what’s going on in your life, as well as reflect on the past and plan for the future. It can also be helpful to document your experiences so that you don’t forget them later on (especially if you move frequently). If writing isn’t something that comes naturally to you, try starting small with daily entries that are only one or two sentences long–the important thing is just getting started!
Being able to chill out and relax is an important part of moving from one place to another
You’re moving from one place to another, and it can be stressful. Self-care is essential during this time, so here are some tips for taking care of yourself:
- Make sure you have time for relaxation and rest. Try yoga or meditation, going for walks outside in nature, or taking bubble baths if you have access to them (or can make them).
- Get enough sleep every night–not just when possible but consistently! It’s easy during this period of stress to lose track of how much sleep we’ve gotten over the past few weeks/months/years…but getting adequate restful nights is essential!
